Our ship was built in 1923 at the Schüler-Werft near the Moorreger Dike at the Pinnau-Canal, not far from the town of Uetersen, Hamburg, as a ‘Hamburger Hafenbarkasse’ called ‘ Heinrich Lippmann’, powered by a steam engine. This was replaced by a diesel engine in 1940 and in 1949 the ship was baptized ‘Carmen’. Later it became the ‘Nordsee VII’. In 1960 the hull was made wider and longer, and finally in 1994 the vessel was baptized ’UHU II’. This is how we found the UHU II in 2021. It was run by the shipping company ‘Reederei Helle’ in Lauenburg as a touring boat, to explore the Scharnebeck twin ship lift, a 38-metre (125 ft) boat lift in Scharnebeck, northeast of Lüneburg.
Lenth: 15,65 m Width: 4,03 m
